Reverend Stephen Wengam, the General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, has shared the immense personal loss he has endured following the passing of his mother, Madam Deborah Wengam.

Describing her death as the most devastating experience of his life, Reverend Wengam reflected on the depth of his grief during a solemn funeral service held in her honour on Saturday, January 25, at the forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The event, attended by numerous dignitaries, including President John Dramani Mahama, featured moving tributes, spiritual reflections, and heartfelt messages that celebrated the life and legacy of Madam Deborah Wengam.

In a deeply emotional tribute, Reverend Wengam found solace in scripture, quoting Psalm 116:15-16:
“Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving and will call upon the name of the LORD.”

The verses, he noted, brought him comfort and strengthened his faith amid the profound sorrow.

Addressing mourners, Reverend Wengam openly expressed the emotional toll of his mother’s passing, sharing his struggle to balance his responsibilities as a spiritual leader with his personal grief.

“As the son of this precious woman, the only surviving son, I cannot pretend that I am the strongest man,” he said, his voice filled with emotion.

Madam Deborah Wengam was eulogised as a devoted mother, a pillar of strength, and an embodiment of faith and selflessness. Her life, marked by unwavering dedication to her family and community, profoundly influenced Reverend Wengam’s leadership and ministry.

The funeral service drew a large gathering of mourners, including family, friends, clergy, and well-wishers from across the country, who came to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.

Madam Deborah Wengam’s legacy, as remembered by her son, will continue to inspire faith, resilience, and service to others.
