Multimedia mourns late DJ Awana in emotional social media post

The Multimedia Group Limited has officially announced the passing of one of its cherished employees, celebrated Ghanaian disc jockey, Samuel Nartey, popularly known as DJ Awana.

In a heartfelt statement shared on the social media page of Adom FM, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group, it was revealed that DJ Awana passed away at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra on Sunday, April 6, 2025, after a brief illness.

The post read: “Our hearts are broken. DJ Awanna 🕊 It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved team member, Mr. Samuel Tei Mensah Nartey, affectionately known as DJ Awanna. Awanna departed this life on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans during this difficult time. Onie o! Awanna Nie o! Ɛyɛ wo nwanwa!”

DJ Awana began his illustrious career in broadcasting over two decades ago with Adom FM, back when the station operated from Tema.

He quickly rose to prominence, becoming a respected figure in Ghana’s media and live event scenes. Known for his gentle demeanor, soft-spoken nature, and impeccable song selection, DJ Awana captured the hearts of many and left an indelible mark on the industry.

His signature jingle, “Awana was Onie o! Awanna Nie o! Ɛyɛ wo nwanwa!” became a household phrase, further cementing his legacy.

News of his passing sparked an outpouring of grief and tributes across social media, with many prominent figures in the entertainment industry mourning his loss and celebrating his impactful career.
