A total of 1,200 schoolchildren across nine schools in Agona Duakwa in the Eastern Region have received antimicrobial footwear through the successful implementation of the Shoes of Hope Distribution Project, an initiative by Samaritan’s Feet Ghana in partnership with Kobby Kyei Media.
The outreach, held on Friday, May 29, brought together pupils, teachers, parents, traditional leaders, volunteers, and community stakeholders in a demonstration of compassion and service aimed at improving child health, hygiene, and educational outcomes.

The project focused on supporting children who often attend school barefoot, exposing them to foot-related infections and other health risks. As part of the intervention, beneficiaries received specially designed antimicrobial shoes intended to protect them from infections, injuries, and other complications associated with walking without proper footwear.
One of the highlights of the event was a personal hygiene exercise organised for the children before the shoe distribution. Volunteers carefully washed and cleaned the feet of the beneficiaries while educating them on the importance of personal hygiene, foot care, and healthy living practices. The exercise not only prepared the children to receive their new shoes but also reinforced lessons on cleanliness and disease prevention.

Following the hygiene session, 1,200 pairs of antimicrobial shoes were distributed to pupils from the nine selected schools in the Agona Duakwa area. Organizers believe the footwear will enhance the comfort, confidence, and overall well-being of the children while supporting their educational journey.
The event was attended by chiefs and traditional leaders from the Agona Duakwa community, whose presence underscored the importance of community participation in child welfare and development initiatives. The traditional authorities commended Samaritan’s Feet Ghana and Kobby Kyei Media for bringing the project to the area and prioritising the health and well-being of children.

Teachers and school authorities also described the intervention as timely and transformative, noting that many pupils come from financially challenged homes where access to quality footwear is difficult. They expressed optimism that the support would positively impact attendance, participation, and general student welfare.
Parents and community members who witnessed the exercise expressed gratitude to the organisers, saying the initiative had provided relief to many households while restoring confidence and dignity to the children who benefited.

Representatives of Samaritan’s Feet Ghana reaffirmed their commitment to improving the lives of children through practical interventions that address both health and educational challenges. They emphasised that access to proper footwear is not merely a matter of comfort but also contributes significantly to children’s safety, dignity, and ability to concentrate on their studies.
Founder of Kobby Kyei Media, Kobby Kyei, thanked partners, volunteers, community leaders, and supporters whose contributions made the project possible. He noted that the initiative reflects a shared commitment to using influence, resources, and partnerships to create meaningful impact in communities across Ghana.

“The smiles on the faces of these children remind us why service to humanity remains important. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow in a safe and healthy environment. We are grateful to Samaritan’s Feet Ghana, the traditional leaders, teachers, volunteers, and everyone who played a role in making this project a success,” he said.
Beyond the distribution of footwear, the event served as a reminder of the transformative impact of collaboration, compassion, and community support on vulnerable populations. Through the combined efforts of Samaritan’s Feet Ghana, Kobby Kyei Media, traditional authorities, and volunteers, the Shoes of Hope Distribution Project has left a lasting impression on the lives of 1,200 children in Agona Duakwa.

As the beneficiaries proudly walked away in their new shoes, they carried not only protection for their feet but also renewed hope, confidence, and reassurance that their community and partners care about their future. The success of the initiative stands as an inspiring example of how collective action can improve lives and create lasting change.
