Popular Kumawood actor and filmmaker, Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known in showbiz as Lilwin, has issued a stern caution to television networks in Ghana, urging them to desist from illegally broadcasting his creative works.

In a video posted to his social media platforms on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, and monitored by Ghana Weekend, the celebrated comedian expressed his disappointment with some station owners and executives who, he alleged, continue to air Ghanaian and Nigerian films without permission.

He bemoaned what he sees as a general neglect of the local movie sector.

Lilwin noted that while broadcasters are willing to spend heavily on foreign entertainment especially Latin American soap operas they often resort to pirating African content, particularly Nollywood movies sourced freely from YouTube, to fill their airtime.

“I don’t understand how these stations can afford to pay for telenovelas yet choose to download Nigerian films for free and air them,” he remarked in frustration.

He emphasised that any unauthorised transmission of his films especially those uploaded to his YouTube channel will not be taken lightly.

Lilwin vowed to take legal action against any violators, warning that he won’t hesitate to escalate the situation if court processes are slow.

“The amount of money I’ll claim when I take legal action… And if the case delays, I’ll deal with it in a way you won’t see coming,” he stated emphatically.

He urged local TV stations to support the local film industry by buying domestic films.

Lilwin said this would help boost the economy and enable filmmakers to continue producing quality content.
