AG challenges A Plus to provide evidence of corruption allegations

Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has issued a strong rebuttal to recent corruption allegations made against him by Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 30, Dr. Ayine dismissed the accusations as baseless and defamatory, describing them as “palpable falsehoods.”

The Attorney General refuted claims that he misappropriated funds from the Sanitation Levy or diverted them to a friend.

He also rejected broader accusations of theft and corruption, stressing that his professional integrity remains intact.

“The Honourable Kwame Asare-Obeng took to social media to make serious allegations against me, calling me corrupt and a thief,” Dr Ayine said. “Besides the name-calling, the Facebook post in its entirety was a palpable falsehood.”

He further clarified that he had no role in the passage of the Sanitation Levy, stating, “I was never involved in the passage of the sanitation levy as I was not a member of the Finance Committee of Parliament, let alone in a position to influence its decisions.”

Responding to allegations regarding campaign funding, Dr Ayine acknowledged reports that A Plus’s claims were based on donations received from a businessman known as Dr. Slege and others who allegedly donated pickup vehicles for his campaign.

“If receiving campaign donations or pickups makes one corrupt or a thief, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament — including the one making these allegations,” he stated.

Dr Ayine concluded by challenging A Plus to make his claims through the appropriate legal channels.

“If A Plus has any evidence of corruption or thievery against me, I am challenging him today to either hold a press conference and present the evidence publicly or submit it to the police for investigation,” he said.
