As Level 100 students at the University of Ghana officially vacated campus on May 12, several shared reflections on their first semester experiences and what they anticipate for the next academic term.
For many, the first semester was a mix of excitement, adjustment, and personal growth.
Jeffery Opoku, one of the students, voiced his concerns about what lies ahead. “I’m expecting next semester to be a difficult semester for we the level 100s because unlike last semester whereby the lecturers were very calm on us, giving us a maximum of two tests and quizzes. I don’t think next semester will be the same,” he said.
Joseph Aryiku shared similar thoughts, though his outlook was more optimistic. He believes the upcoming semester will be packed with activities and opportunities.
“Next semester’s expectations are very high because at that point we will be staying in school for long, so I will be expecting more next semester because this semester was fun,” he stated.
Savior Afachaw reflected on her first few months at the university as a time of growth, despite encountering some academic hurdles.
“My first semester in the university has been an amazing journey and experience. Some challenges from some courses but those challenges have helped me to develop better time management and study skills,” she explained.
Looking ahead, she hopes to increase her social interactions and continue learning both academically and personally.
Overall, many Level 100 students described their initial semester as enjoyable, largely due to a more relaxed academic environment with fewer assessments.
However, most agree that the second semester will likely be more intense and demanding, as expectations from lecturers and the workload are expected to increase.
