Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has opened up about his current relationship with Raymond Archer, the Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Shatta Wale was detained by EOCO on Wednesday August 20 in connection with a Lamborghini Urus identified as proceeds of a $4 million fraud case investigated by the FBI and the US Justice Department.
According to EOCO, the luxury vehicle was linked to one Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a prison sentence in the United States for his involvement in a major fraud case. The investigation is part of a wider probe into possible Ghanaian co-conspirators and efforts to recover assets connected to the crime.
At the request of U.S. authorities, EOCO began tracking the vehicle locally. The Lamborghini was eventually found in the possession of Shatta Wale and seized around May this year.
Speaking in an interview with George Quaye on JoyPrime on Wednesday October 15, Shatta revealed that despite the controversy that came about his arrest, he and Raymond Archer are now on very good terms — even calling him his best friend.
“Raymond Archer is now my best friend because I feel God sent him for us to educate the people of Ghana,” Shatta Wale said. “And that’s what he did — he taught us how to buy cars appropriately, from the right sources.”
He added that the experience was a divine lesson that opened his eyes to the importance of verifying ownership and authenticity when purchasing property.
“People might think he arrested me and blah blah, but all what he did was God-ordained. He’s really opened our eyes to certain things. So I think it’s about time the youth become wise and know how to purchase properties,” he advised.
Reflecting on the incident, Shatta Wale said the episode helped him become more cautious in business and personal transactions.
“Now, if I want to purchase something, I’ll be like, ‘Is it stolen?’” he said with a laugh.
