After days of excitement, reconnections and celebration, Swedru Senior High School brought its 67th anniversary to a meaningful and reflective close with a special thanksgiving service on Sunday, March 22.
The atmosphere, though calmer than the previous days, was deeply powerful.
Alumni, students, staff and guests gathered in unity, shifting from celebration to gratitude, giving thanks for the school’s journey and the role it has played in shaping generations.
Amid the solemn reflections, the global president of the SWESCO Old Students Association, Samuel Atta-Mensah, delivered a stirring message that redefined the essence of the anniversary.
“We strive to be with the best, so when it’s all said and done, after the fun, after the excitement, after the camaraderie, the next is how we motivate ourselves to keep building the school that crafted our dreams,” he said.
His words struck a chord with the congregation, many of whom had spent the past days reliving cherished memories. But he urged them to look beyond the nostalgia.
“So, as we leave here, let’s leave here with a burden of how to help SWESCO stand on its feet. It’s not about just merry-making, it goes beyond that,” he emphasised.
In a call that resonated strongly with alumni and stakeholders, he described the anniversary not as an end, but as the beginning of a renewed commitment to development.
“It’s a call to all stakeholders, mainly the old students’ organisation, that yes, we’ve just ended three days of activities, but we have just marked the beginning of a new phase of development,” he added.
The message brought a renewed sense of purpose to the gathering, transforming the closing ceremony into a moment of commitment and forward-thinking.
For many alumni, it was a reminder that their connection to SWESCO goes far beyond shared memories: it carries a responsibility to give back and help sustain the institution’s legacy.
As the service came to an end, there was a quiet sense of fulfilment.
The laughter and energy of the past days gave way to reflection, gratitude and resolve.
Old students exchanged farewells with promises not just to return but to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the school they proudly call home.
The 67th anniversary may have drawn to a close, but as echoed in the president’s words, a new chapter has just begun, one driven by unity, responsibility and a shared vision to see SWESCO thrive for generations to come.
