The Ohemaa Project in collaboration with the Black Star International Film Festival led by American-Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Aba Arthur, hosted an engaging masterclass at the University of Media, Arts and Communication-Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT) on Thursday, April 2, 2026.
The event brought together a vibrant mix of filmmakers and students from the university, creating a dynamic space for learning, collaboration and inspiration within Ghana’s growing film industry.

The masterclass featured an insightful session led by Aba Arthur, who explored key areas including the power of authentic storytelling, narrative development and structure, and creating content for global impact.
Her presentation emphasised the importance of telling original African stories that resonate both locally and internationally.

Addressing participants, Aba Arthur highlighted her vision of equipping young filmmakers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global market.
She expressed optimism that empowering creatives at the grassroots level would contribute to elevating African storytelling on the world stage.

Also present at the event was Juliet Asante CEO of the Black Star International Film Festival whose presence underscored the initiative’s commitment to nurturing talents and strengthening the creative arts ecosystem in Ghana.
The masterclass forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ohemaa Project and Black Star Film Festival to invest in the next generation of storytellers and position Ghana as a hub for compelling and globally relevant film content.
