Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has disclosed that she believes she would be unemployed if she had not found success in music.
Speaking in a recent interview with EE72, the singer reflected on her journey to stardom, her signing to Mavin Records, and the realities of living in the public eye.
According to the 24-year-old, music gave her a career path she may not have found elsewhere.
“If I were not doing music, I would literally be unemployed. I do not even think I would be a content creator. That would be a lot of work. I would just be vibing in my mother’s house, eating my mother’s food,” she said.
Ayra Starr also recalled her excitement when she discovered that Don Jazzy and members of the Mavin Records team had been listening to her music before offering her a record deal.
“I was so excited when I found out they were listening to my music.”
The singer further opened up about the challenges that come with fame, admitting that she sometimes wishes the public knew less about her because of her tendency to be overly open during interviews.
“I really wish people knew less about me. Once the camera comes on, I cannot stop talking. And I feel like I overshare.”
Ayra Starr rose to prominence after signing with Mavin Records and has since become one of Africa’s most successful music exports, earning international recognition with several hit songs and collaborations.
