2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Artiste (VGMA) of the Year, Diana Hamilton, has asked members of the Parliament of Ghana to put the interests of citizens first while deciding on the controversial E-levy Bill.
While admitting to having little insight into the current tax policy, the gospel singer expressed her concern about its possible impacts on ordinary Ghanaians.
“l’ve heard people talking about it, but I don’t know what it entails. I think it is a topic for discussion at the moment, and there is a lot of debate ongoing. I pray that whatever decision comes out of that will favour the Ghanaian,” she concluded.
Even though the proposal of the E-levy by the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been widely criticised by Ghanaians, the government still maintains that the tax will be an efficient way to raise the country’s tax-to-GDP ratio from 13 percent to a target of 16 percent or higher.
