Sampling or remaking of songs is not a new thing in the music industry; it is a practice that predates the birth of highlife artiste Kuami Eugene.
However, it appears more attention has been fixated on Kuami Eugene because of how successful he has been and how exposed most people have become in terms of listening to music. It could also be a result of technology and the advent of social media. You can’t sample a song and go undetected.
Ghanaian comedian Nathaniel Mensah, popularly known as Ajeezay, has for the past weeks been digging deep to find out songs in Ghana and elsewhere that people probably didn’t know were sampled.
Dubbed the ‘Sampled Police’, the radar fell on artistes such Joe Beecham, Florence Obinim, VIP, Davido, Burna Boy, Sony Achiba, among others.
