Veteran rapper, Richard Kwasi Siaw Akrofi, popularly known as Ex Doe has cautioned young rappers to desist from engaging in unnecessary squabbles which could damage their brands.
According to Ex Doe, the best way to address issues between rival rappers is through lyrical battles for the public to judge.
“To me, I don’t really like beefing and I will never support it in the music industry. I prefer battling because that is the root of our genre,” he stated during an interview on Kastle FM.
Ex Doe has chalked his name in the history books of Hiplife music when he ‘beefed’ his one-time best friend, Chicago in the late 90s making them one of the first artists to do so in the new school music era in Ghana.
He said most people don’t understand the difference between creative punchlines and ‘beefing’.
“Most people miss the difference between a battle and dissing because diss is a short form of disrespect as being used abroad by most rappers.
“So disrespect has been slang as diss but the battle is not about using insulting or abusive world but rather creative punchlines and that’s allowed in our game,” he explained.
Meanwhile, after several years of being apart, Ex Doe and Chicago have sorted out their differences and have both expressed regrets.
