Ghanaian-American actor and comedian, Michael Blackson, says he might run to become president of Ghana because “things are too expensive.”

“Looks like I’m going to prepare myself to run for president in 12 yrs. I think the people need me,” he tweeted after an earlier tweet he made about high prices of goods in Ghana.

Blackson expressed shock that items such as furniture and home appliances sold in Ghana cost twice the price they’re sold in the United States of America.

His comment has been shared more than 2000 times in 24 hours.

“C’mon Ghana why are things so damn expensive? I just tried to buy furniture and appliances and they are twice the price of what they cost me in the U.S.

In another tweet, Blackson, who also tweeted about his visit to ex-president John Agyekum Kufuor, spoke about Ghana’s high dependence on goods importation despite being a resource rich country.

Michael, in a recent interview with Club Shay Shay, explained that his love for Ghana has grown even bigger, and as a result of that, he has embarked on a school project in his hometown, Nsaba (in the Central Region) to give back to society.

He said he started thinking about Africa deeply when George Floyd (an African American) was killed by a US police officer, in an incident many believe was racially motivated.

According to the actor, the treatment of Floyd made him begin to asking questions about the black man’s place in America and in relation to Africa.

He now owns a home in Ghana in addition to his two homes in the United States of America.

The school, according to him, will give scholarships to all children who enrol to study for free.

Michael Blackson was born in Liberia on November 28, 1972, to a Ghanaian father and Liberian mother.

He spent his young years in between Liberia and Ghana before relocating to the United States in the mid-1980s. His father died in 2008.
