Ghanaian rapper M.anifest is one of the people who believe that lyrical bouts and beef among artistes is a necessary evil in the music industry.
He told Peter Okwoche in a recent interview on the BBC that “attention is the new currency.”
“Life is a lot about different philosophical points of view, always going at each other; whether it’s in literature, whether it’s in politics; whether it’s in religion. So we’ve just inherited the world.
“Beef is part of life but also people really recognize the financial benefits of attention. Attention is the new currency. Attention is the new drug that everybody feeds on, and beef is the easiest way to get attention,” he noted.

In 2016, M.anifest and rapper Sarkodie were locked in a lyrical duel over the supremacy in the rap game.
Their rap beef was one that generated a lot of attention in the music industry as a lot of people critically assessed their lyrical prowess in the various songs they released.
M.anifest’s interview with the BBC took place ahead of his London show.
Manifest has been embarking on his Madina to the Universe tour and has, for the past few weeks, performed at different shows in Europe.
