Ghanaian stand-up comedian, Lekzy DeComic has opened up on a situation he went into in 2020 when the world got hit by the coronavirus pandemic.
He told Kwame Dadzie in an interview with Ghana Weekend TV that he got depressed during the lockdown and even considered taking his life.
According to him, the outbreak which brought to a halt all economic activities affected his livelihood.
“When COVID came, I was so depressed. I was even contemplating suicide at some point. I am serious. I love comedy to the extent that sometimes I just want to perform and not even think about the money; the fact that I am putting what I have in me into practice. At that time we had a show in the UK, we didn’t get the chance to travel to the UK. I had invested some in some business, the money got choked because we couldn’t sell to people, I was broke. At that time I was in the room depressed, I had no friends,” he said.
He however said during that time he spoke with comedian OB Amponsah, who also shared a similar story. They then decided to take their comedy to radio and later got a show on Pluzz FM.
Lezky who started comedy about 10 years ago, is holding the second edition of his annual show called ‘Too Cute to be Mite.’
The show is slated for September 30 at the National Theatre.
It will feature other comedians including Funny Face, OB Amponsah, Clemento Suarez, and General Ntatia.
Lekzy will also play host to Kenyan comedian, Simi, and music star, Mr. Drew.
