Artistes that performed at the recently held Global Citizen Festival did not charge performance fees but they did not go home empty-handed.
According to Ghanaian artiste Gyakie, every one that played a role at the event was given some money.
She told Giovani Caleb on 3FM that even though they did everything out of benevolence to support the Global Citizen cause, they were paid.
“Yes, everybody that was on the stage was obviously paid. The dancers, the choristers, the band. Everybody.”

An earlier comment by Kojo Poku, the CEO of Big Ideaz Consult, a local partner of the Global Citizen Festival in Accra, left some people in doubt whether the artistes really did the show for free.
Kojo had disclosed that none of the artistes who appeared on the stage was paid a performance fee due to the humanitarian nature of the programme.
“I have to say that no artiste was paid a performance fee for this. Everyone who mounted the stage did so out of the benevolence of their heart and the Global Citizen cause is bigger than how much you’ll make out of a performance on that stage,” he said.
This, however, does not mean people that worked for the event were not paid.
Gyakie performed at the festival which happened on Saturday together with Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Yaw Tog, and Kwesi Arthur.
There were also performances from Stormzy, SZA, Oxlade, Pheelz, Tiwa Savage, Tems and Usher.
