The highly anticipated sequel to Girls Trip might be heading to a new destination, according to star Regina Hall.
While screenwriter Tracy Oliver initially revealed plans to set Girls Trip 2 in Ghana, Hall recently hinted that the location may have changed.
During a Zoom interview with UPI to promote her upcoming film O’Dessa, Hall provided an update on the sequel, offering more details than she shared during her appearance on Jennifer Hudson’s talk show last week.
“I heard that it may not be in Ghana after all,” Hall revealed. “They’ve since moved locations. I know Tracy [Oliver] and Kenya [Barris] are working on the script.”
Oliver had previously told UPI that the Afrochella festival inspired her to set the sequel in Ghana. However, Hall explained that the writers are now exploring other African countries, factoring in feasibility for filming.
“I do know it’s somewhere in Africa, but that doesn’t narrow it down much since Africa is a continent,” Hall joked. “It probably depends on where they can set up the infrastructure, which makes me think South Africa. That’s my guess.”
The original Girls Trip, released in 2017, starred Hall alongside Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Queen Latifah as four friends whose wild trip to New Orleans tested and ultimately strengthened their bond. The film was a box office hit, debuting at No. 2 behind Dunkirk with 30.4 million and eventually grossing over 115 million in the U.S. and Canada.
