Media personality Nana Aba Anamoah has defended Communications Minister Sam Nartey George amidst growing criticism over rising data costs in Ghana.
Some Ghanaians have expressed their frustration, especially on social media, regarding what they see as high data charges from telecom providers.
The backlash stems from George’s previous criticisms of former minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, where he promised more affordable data costs should his party come to power.
In light of the current uproar, Nana Aba called for a more realistic public response. She noted on X (formerly Twitter) on 21st May that reducing data prices is a complicated process that requires time, thorough consultations, and collaboration with industry stakeholders.
“It doesn’t work that way! He can’t just wake up and lower data prices because he’s a minister. Don’t judge him based on what he said in opposition; the reality of governance is different,” she stated.
Addressing accusations of hypocrisy from a user, she highlighted the distinction between political campaigning and governing.
“I mentioned this during Ursula’s tenure as well. People often choose to believe what aligns with their preferences. It’s important to engage in independent research rather than blindly following popular opinions.”
