Ghanaian rapper, singer and songwriter, Kwesi Arthur has issued a strong message to detractors in a TikTok video, addressing criticism over his recent pivot to food reviews amid a slower pace of music releases.
Known for chart-topping hits like Grind Day, the Tema-born artiste defended his creative evolution, rejecting the toxic notion that he needs to endure hardship to produce the raw music that marked his rise to fame.
In an emotional outburst, Arthur called out fans who expressed harmful wishes for his downfall, hoping it would inspire the kind of music he created in his early days.
“Some people have gone to the extent of being like, oh, I hope he goes broke… so he can give us the type of music he used to give us,” he said. “I’ve suffered enough in my time. It’s why I’ve worked so hard to overcome that and be in the position that I am in right now.”
His words underscored a refusal to let negativity dictate his journey, emphasising his hard-earned success and determination to live authentically.
Arthur, who rose from humble beginnings in Tema, also shared his newfound passion for showcasing Ghana’s diverse culinary scene through food reviews.
He explained that this shift is partly to inspire younger audiences by highlighting options he never knew as a youth.
“Growing up in Tema, I didn’t think there was a lot of variety for me to choose from in terms of food,” he noted. His food content aims to broaden horizons for fans and aspiring creatives alike.
Unfazed by critics, Arthur accused them of trying to “kill a lot of talents in this country” with their toxic attitudes.
He made it clear he won’t be silenced, recounting his journey from rapping shirtless in Tema to becoming a celebrated artist.
“You got the wrong guy,” he declared, challenging detractors who dare to dictate his path. He also warned that he would block negative users and respond to attacks in his own way, hinting at a fierce comeback for those who cross him.
