The University of Ghana held its 2025 SRC elections today, August 18, to choose a new SRC President and Vice President.
However, the polls did not produce an outright winner, paving the way for a runoff between the top two contenders.
According to the official results released by the Electoral Commission of the SRC, a total of 24,265 students cast their ballots out of 59,460 registered voters. The pair of Larbi Ofori Richmond and Gyampo Ayeh Ebenezer Derrick emerged in the lead with 11,085 votes (45.7%), followed closely by Evander Kofi Akrasi and Michael Fareed Yeng Anwar, who secured 9,019 votes (37.2%).
The SRC constitution stipulates that a candidate must secure at least 50% of the total votes cast to be declared president. With neither ticket achieving this threshold, the Electoral Commission announced a runoff between the Richmond–Derrick and Akrasi–Anwar camps.
Other candidates in the race included Nkonimadom Kwabena Yeboah and Leticia Adime Kumesi, who garnered 2,251 votes (9.3%), William Tekpor and Daniel Kwame Nyarkoh with 997 votes (4.1%), and Agana Moses Anabila and Daniel Dugbatey, who polled 719 votes (3%). A total of 194 students (0.8%) abstained.

With the runoff date yet to be announced, anticipation is building on campus as both camps intensify their campaigns to win over undecided voters and supporters of the eliminated candidates. The outcome of the second round will determine who takes over the mantle of leadership for the 2025/2026 academic year.
