Creative industry stakeholder and event organiser, Robert Klah has called for strong execution of the Black Star Experience, stressing that while expectations are high, stakeholders are primarily eager to see action.
Speaking in an interview on Hit FM on Tuesday January 20, he said extensive groundwork has already been done, including engagements with stakeholders and the development of branding elements for the initiative.
“In terms of the underground work, yes, we know it’s been done,” Klah said.
According to him, one of the most encouraging developments is the availability of budget for the project, which has been positioned as a flagship cultural initiative to drive tourism and strengthen Ghana’s creative arts sector.
Klah explained that the Black Star Experience is expected to go beyond existing cultural activations such as December in GH, with activities planned throughout the year.
“This is supposed to be a step or a notch higher than December in GH, and it’s supposed to cover every month in the year,” he noted.
He added that the project’s description online already presents it as Ghana’s leading cultural and tourism initiative, a factor that has further raised public and industry expectations.
“When you read the descriptions, you’re like, yeah, this is it,” he said.
Klah also highlighted that the Black Star Experience is a manifesto promise, making delivery critical. With creatives, media practitioners and the general public closely monitoring progress, he said the sector will continue to use its platforms to hold implementers accountable.
“The expectations are huge… we have the microphone constantly,” he stated.
Despite the high hopes, Klah emphasised that what stakeholders truly want is visible impact.
“We just want to see things happening month after month, contributing to the creative economy, because that is what has been promised,” he said.
He concluded by reaffirming the creative sector’s support for the initiative, while urging organizers to move from plans to implementation.
“We are wishing them all the best. We are throwing all our support. We just want to see action.”
