A debate has erupted following comments by Ghanaian media personality Mr Carter, who has openly challenged award-winning rapper Sarkodie to prove he can fill The O2 Arena.
Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM on Monday, March 9, Mr Carter said he believes the rapper will struggle to sell out the iconic London venue despite having ample time to promote his Rapperholic Concert.
“I want to be delusional. He can’t fill it,” Carter said during the discussion. “I’m daring him… even with that one year he has bought for himself to advertise and market the tickets, he will not be able to fill The O2 Arena.”
His comments follow Sarkodie’s recent announcement that his flagship Rapperholic Concert will be staged at The O2 Arena in 2027 after the show was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London for the first time this year.
According to Carter, the challenge is not only about Sarkodie’s popularity but also about audience behaviour among Africans in the diaspora.
“There is this issue about blacks, or let me say Ghanaians, in the diaspora, who don’t attend events,” he argued, adding that some artistes have had to cancel concerts at the venue despite months of promotion due to low ticket sales.
Carter also referenced past complaints from Ghanaian musicians about poor turnout at overseas shows, including remarks by Fameye about difficulties attracting diaspora audiences to events.
The O2 Arena, one of the largest indoor venues in Europe with a capacity of about 20,000, has hosted global stars and major international tours, making it a significant milestone for African artists seeking to stage large-scale concerts in the UK.
Sarkodie has yet to respond publicly to the challenge.
