Public Events and Communications lead at Charterhouse Productions, Robert Klah, has explained why some artistes fail to secure nominations in certain categories at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.
Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM on Monday, March 16, Klah said missing out on nominations does not necessarily mean an artiste did not perform well, but rather that they may not have been competitive enough compared to others in the same category.
“If for any reason somebody is not in a category, then it’s one of many things,” he explained. “It could be that the person just couldn’t make the cut in comparison to the others in the space because it is inherently competitive.”
His comments followed questions about why some artistes, including Jubed and Rcee, were absent from categories such as New Artiste of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
Klah noted that the awards board considers multiple data points before finalising nominees.
According to him, decisions are not based solely on local popularity but on a broader analysis of industry performance.
“We are not just looking at what happened here. We look at streams, radio airplay, and feedback from other regions. We put all of these elements together before a decision is made,” he said.
He added that even when an artiste records strong numbers in one area, they may still fall short if their overall performance across other metrics is not strong enough.
“Sometimes you even have good numbers, but in other areas you may not be strong,” Klah stated, adding that the final list reflects the board’s comprehensive assessment of all available data.
