Award-winning rapper Sarkodie has pushed back against perceptions that music is not a legitimate profession, describing such views as dismissive and outdated.
In a social media post shared on Sunday, April 26, the rapper criticised the common question often directed at artistes—asking what they do “apart from music” or what their “proper business” is.
According to him, that line of questioning can come across as insulting, given the scale and significance of the global music industry.
“Music is actually one of the biggest industries in the world, and in many cases, it’s just as serious (if not more) than what people like to call ‘proper businesses,’” he stated.
Sarkodie emphasised that pursuing a music career should be seen as a valid business decision, noting that, like any other venture, it involves both risks and rewards.
He added that with the right approach, investment, and strategy, music can be highly profitable and sustainable, reinforcing its place as a serious professional path rather than a fallback option.
