Kwame Eugene has opened up about the intense expectations placed on him by fans, saying the pressure to release hit songs consistently is often overwhelming.
Speaking to Pulse Ghana on Wednesday, April 29, during a private listening session for his Sweet Boy EP in Accra, the award-winning artiste clarified that the burden is more personal than industry-wide.
“I don’t think it’s Ghanaians expecting so much from artistes. I think they’re expecting so much from Kwame Eugene,” he said.
According to the “Rockstar” hitmaker, while some top artistes can go years without producing major hits and still maintain public support, he is held to a different standard.
“There are a lot of artistes who no get like a hit song for the past five years… and it’s calm, people are okay with them. But they want Kwame Eugene to come with a hit song every month,” he lamented.
The singer, known for his consistent chart-topping releases, expressed concern over the unrealistic nature of such expectations, stressing that creativity requires time and balance.
“The fact that I can doesn’t mean I should do it. Drop a hit song every month? Chill, give me some time,” he added.
Beyond the music, Kwame Eugene highlighted the importance of personal well-being, noting that he also needs time to rest and focus on family.
“I got family. Sometimes you need to rest your head away from everything and just chill some more,” he said.
His remarks shed light on the pressures faced by artistes in Ghana’s music industry, particularly those with a track record of success, and spark conversation about the need for fans to allow creatives the space to evolve at their own pace.
