Dancehall artiste Shatta Wale has disclosed that efforts are ongoing to bring Jamaican dancehall legend Vybz Kartel to Ghana for a major event.
Speaking in an interview with Nigerian pop culture personality Adesope Olajide on a YouTube interview published on June 7, Shatta Wale disclosed that he has been engaging promoters behind the scenes to make the move possible.
Responding to a question about whether he plans to bring Vybz Kartel to Ghana, the “On God” hitmaker described it as “the million-dollar question” and explained that he is carefully waiting for the right moment.
According to him, he does not want to put pressure on the Jamaican star following his release from prison and believes Kartel should be allowed enough space to settle and organise his affairs before taking on international appearances.
“I’m working on it,” Shatta Wale said. “I’m the type of person who doesn’t like to take advantage of people. Since he came out of jail, I feel he had his own plans to work things out, so I’m just waiting for the right time.”
The dancehall artiste added that discussions are already ongoing with promoters to organise a show in Ghana that would properly compensate Vybz Kartel and make the visit worthwhile.
Shatta Wale also stressed that he wants the Jamaican musician to come to Ghana primarily for work and business, rather than simply because of their friendship or public hype.
During the interview, the SM boss also reflected on the strength of the Shatta Movement fanbase, which he compared to global fan communities such as Beyoncé’s BeyHive and Wizkid’s FC.
He credited his longtime associate and manager, Sammy Flex for helping communicate his vision and decisions to fans over the years.
According to Shatta Wale, Sammy Flex understands the direction of the Shatta Movement brand and often helps explain decisions that many people initially see as risky or controversial.
