Ghanaian filmmaker, Pascal Aka, has opened up on the music side of his creative talents.
The film producer told Kwame Dadzie on Ghana Weekend TV that he started doing music when he was about 15 years old.
“When I was 15 to 16 years old I was making music because I really wanted to pursue music, rapping, and music production. So when I came back from Canada for the first time in 2004, someone introduced me to Hammer,” he said.
According to him, Hammer listened to his six-track demo and decided to feature him on one of his compilations.
Pascal, who also scores the music for some of his films, added that he studied film scoring when he attended film school in Canada.
“Gradually the rapping stopped, the production stopped but when I grabbed the camera in 2005, I started scoring my movies. So all the movies that I did in Canada, I scored them. I was trained and mentored by music composers over there,” he told Ghana Weekend TV.
The award-winning movie producer, director, actor, and scriptwriter said that it was when he did the movie Gold Coast Lounge that he really took his music to a whole new level.

“I am really incorporating our traditional sounds into it. So my journey with this film music thing is to actually have that international cinematic film sound with our African culture in there,” he added.
He said Hammer advised him to venture into music video directing after he completed his film education. So, he later worked on a number of Ghanaian music videos before deciding to focus on films.
Pascal Aka, has won the Best Soundtrack award for his film, Gold Coast Lounge at the 8th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) which took place on May 13, 2022.
He has produced movies such as Mind Rush, Black Rose, Double Cross, Interception, Ghana Police, among others.
