Nigerian comedian and filmmaker Basketmouth has shared a heartfelt message on the importance of gratitude, drawing from a personal experience with his workers during the just-ended Christmas festivities.
In a video posted on his official Instagram page on January 5, 2026, the veteran entertainer revealed that he gained a deeper understanding of why religious leaders consistently preach gratitude only after a recent encounter within his company.
According to Basketmouth, he runs a company with about 60 staff members, some of whom earn between ₦2.5 million and ₦3 million monthly. He noted that every year, he makes it a point to appreciate his workers during Christmas by giving bonuses, bags of rice and other items as a token of gratitude for their dedication and hard work.
However, the comedian disclosed that this past Christmas, only two of his employees surprised him with hampers.
“This Christmas, after everything, it was just two of them that got me a hamper. Only two hampers I got this Christmas,” he said.
Basketmouth clarified that the gesture did not shock or offend him, nor did he feel entitled to gifts. Instead, the experience made him reflect deeply on appreciation and gratitude.
He explained that receiving the hampers immediately made him think about how he could do more for those two staff members.
“The first thing that crossed my mind was, how do I do more for these guys? How do I open more doors for them? How do I give them greater opportunities?” he said.
As he pondered this, Basketmouth said it suddenly dawned on him that this might be how God feels when people show gratitude for life’s blessings.
He stressed that life itself is a gift and that simply waking up each morning is enough reason to thank God.
“The fact that you wake up in the morning, you should kneel down and thank God for life, for the air we breathe, for the fact that you’re healthy,” he stated, adding that gratitude often attracts more blessings.
Using the moment to encourage his followers, Basketmouth urged people to appreciate anyone who has played a role in their lives, no matter how small.
“Even if it’s not a card, just a small greeting, just thank them, appreciate them, and you’ll see what will happen. They’ll do more,” he advised.
The comedian also expressed appreciation to fans who have supported his shows in the United Kingdom for over 15 years, noting that although he does not have their addresses to send gifts, he remains deeply grateful for their love and loyalty.
Basketmouth’s message has since resonated with many online, with fans praising him for highlighting the power of gratitude, appreciation and humility in everyday life.
