Ghanaian singer, Sefa has revealed that before finding success in music, she faced strong discouragement from people who believed she was better suited for a career in the military.
Speaking in an interview with Doreen Avio on Hitz FM on Tuesday February 24, the musician disclosed that several individuals questioned her decision to pursue music, insisting that the path she had chosen was not ideal.
According to Sefa, some of the comments were linked to her physical appearance, particularly her height, which led people to suggest that she should consider becoming a soldier instead.
“A couple of people were telling me to be a soldier,” she said.
Despite the advice, Sefa said music was her true passion, and she remained committed to it even when others could not understand her vision.
“It’s nice to follow your passion and know that it’s working out for you,” she said, adding that outsiders often fail to see what an artiste believes in during the early stages.
She admitted that the journey was challenging, especially at a time when her songs were being released but had not yet gained the level of recognition she expected. Watching the progress of other artistes during that period was difficult, but she stayed focused on her own growth.
Sefa further explained that when she joined her record label, her mindset was not about competition or outperforming her label mates.
“I just wanted to work hard and make sure my name becomes a household name,” she stated.
Today, the singer says she is grateful to God and her team for how far she has come, noting that her success is gradually proving the doubters wrong as people begin to understand the vision she held onto from the beginning.
